    Purpose:

This page is intended for infrequent or first time travellers. Many people have questions which they are afraid to ask or don't know who to ask. Most of the tips on this site should help travellers answer their questions or at least let them know who to ask.

How does this site help me if I'm a U.S. Citizen?
If you are a U.S. citizen and would like to get detailed information on specific areas, click here to go to an official U.S. State Department site where you can also get specific warnings. (4)

But I have never travelled before...
If you are going to a place for the first time, take a look at this page to ensure you are aware of some important facts about that place.  [TOP]

    Booking a Ticket:

Where and how do I get the best rate on a ticket?
To get the best rates, "shop around". Different travel agents offer different ticket prices depending upon the time and day of travel, the destination and arrival points and the type of ticket (one way / two way). Usually, a two-way ticket tends to be cheaper than two one-way tickets.

What if I cannot make it to my flight and want to cancel?
At the time of booking, keep in mind the cancellation procedures and deadlines in case you wish to postpone or cancel your flight. Asking the travel agent before you book a ticket will save you time and headaches.

I don't like sitting around cigarette smoke. Can I get a preferred seat?
If you are a smoker or a non-smoker, make sure you let the travel agent know before booking so they can arrange for an appropriate seat. Also, it is possible to get preferred seats in most cases. If you prefer to be seated by the window or anywhere else, you must advise the agent of that as well. In most cases, you will be advised to arrive early at the airport and request your preferred seat at the time of check-in.

So which type of ticket should I get?
Generally, there are 3 classes of tickets and 4 types of tickets. The three classes are (in decreasing order of comfort):

    1. Business Class

    2. First Class

    3. Economy Class

The charges of the respective tickets are more as the level of comfort increases. The types of tickets also correspond to the above classes with the addition of a charter ticket (seating in economy class). This ticket is usually the least expensive of all but has a fixed date of travel. So you would have to specify exactly when you wish to depart and arrive.

As a general security, keep a record of the confirmation numbers including the names of the people who helped you make the confirmations of your accommodations. [TOP]

        Boarding the plane:

Do I need to carry something with me while I board the plane?
Before boarding the plane, make sure important travel documents such as visa's, passports, ticket, etc., are in an accessible place.  If travelling on an International flight, you will usually require a passport and may also require a visa and/or other entry permit or health certificate.  You are advised to keep all your travel documents with you so they are immediately available for presentation to inspection personnel.
